Caring for Sensitive Skin

Each skin type can be sensitive and react strongly to irritants. Typical qualities of sensitive skin are redness and irritation. Skin sensitivity can be caused by many different reasons, such as illness, environmental factors or the skin becoming damaged or fragile.

The most common cause of skin sensitivity is surface dryness. The skin can be quickly revitalised through proper care and achieving the ideal moisture content, which allows the barrier protecting the skin to replenish itself. The best skin care products for sensitive skin are those with simple, mild and soothing ingredients.

Facial cleansing

Avoid cleansing the skin with nothing but water, as water can make the skin dry out. For a light cleanse and to freshen up the skin it’s best to use a hydrating toner, as this retains the skin’s natural pH and supports the absorption of skin care products.

For everyday cleansing, we recommend our gentle Sensitive Wash cleansing gel. Sensitive Wash contains oat straw extract and organic honey, which help the skin retain moisture, leaving it feeling soft and supple. Sensitive Wash is also suitable for make-up removal, but highly pigmented make-ups may require a double cleanse.

Always use warm water as hot water can dry out and irritate sensitive skin. Hot water also causes superficial blood vessels to expand, which can cause the skin to turn red and worsen the symptoms of rosacea.

Facial deep cleansing

Regular mask treatments a few times per week will help the skin cleanse and achieve the ideal moisture content. Our charcoal-based Detox Masque is a super gentle, hydrating cream mask that leaves the skin moisturised, soft and supple.

Oil cleansing is a great alternative, as it deep cleanses efficiently and leaves the skin moisturised and soft without the need to apply moisturiser. Take extra care when steaming the face,so that the heat does not exacerbate symptoms of redness or rosacea. We recommend you use the oil cleansing method in the evenings, so any redness has time to clear up overnight.

We do not recommend mechanical exfoliation for sensitive skin. If exfoliating is absolutely necessary, the gentlest method is gently massaging the skin with a moist cleansing cloth while removing your mask or cleansing oil.

Bath and shower

Sensitive skin should be washed as gently as possible. Avoid using hot water, daily baths or showers and strong cleansers, so that the skin barrier remains intact. A healthy skin barrier upholds the skin’s natural moisture balance and immunity, significantly reducing skin sensitivity and irritation.

We recommend you primarily use cream or oil cleansers, as they leave the skin soft and moisturised. For a quick, light shower you can also use a mild, sulphate-free shower gel, but then it’s extremely important you replenish the skin’s moisture content and pH by applying toner and moisturiser afterwards.


Toners are an important part of every successful skin care routine. Toners are packed with hydrating and nourishing ingredients that care for the skin while also restoring the skin’s pH and supporting the effects and absorption of other skin care products. Always spray the skin moist with toner before applying moisturiser; this way, you’ll reduce the amount of moisturiser you need and make your product last much longer. This also reduces itchiness and burning caused by applying product directly onto sensitive, irritated skin.

All our toners contain hydrating and nourishing ingredients so choosing the right one depends on the more specific needs of your skin. Our rose water-based Sensitive Spray Toner soothes skin irritation and redness. Our deeply hydrating Hydra Spray Toner is the better choice for combating dryness and rough patches.

Facial skin care

Daily moisturising is essential to improving the skin’s moisture content and replenishing a damaged skin barrier. Apply toner and moisturiser in moderation several times a day to avoid over-treating the skin, and to gauge the exact needs of your skin on a day-to-day basis. Nourishment-packed serums bring an added boost to your skin care regimen and guarantee the best results. Serums can be used in place of moisturisers or mixed into any of our moisturisers to boost your daily moisturising routine.

Our rich Sensitive Cream is our simplest moisturiser, and it has been specially formulated for everyday use when caring for hypersensitive skin, a damaged skin barrier or contact dermatitis. If the skin is red and irritated, we recommend our rose water-based Balance Cream. Our deeply hydrating Hydra Serum contains plenty of vitamin B3 and hyaluronic acid, making it perfect for replenishing moisture, strengthening the skin barrier and evening skin tone.

For flakiness and dermatitis on the skin around the eyes or lips we recommend using our extra light, quickly absorbing Restore Concentrate, which has been specially developed for delicate skin. Apply a very thin layer of concentrate around the eyes and avoid the eyelids, unless you are targeting dermatitis. Restore Concentrate is packed with nourishing oils and keeps delicate skin moisturised and healthy. It also doubles as an eye make-up primer.

Body skin care

We recommend using the lightest lotions possible for everyday moisturising. Our Base and Base+ Lotions are quick-absorbing and extremely light. They contain coconut and grapeseed oils, which soften and soothe the skin. Base+ Lotion is the better choice when the skin is itchy or visibly irritated, as it also contains calming Roman chamomile flower oil.

Scalp care

When caring for a sensitive scalp, it’s extremely important that your shampoo is as mild and gentle as possible. Our sulphate-free Hair & Body Wash contains Roman chamomile and lavender flower waters, which soothe scalp sensitivity and irritation. We recommend using regular cream or oil masks for moisturising the scalp.

Soothing itchy, hot skin

Aloe vera-based hydration gels provide quick relief for hot, itchy and irritated skin. Our antioxidant-rich blueberry extract Aloe Berry Jelly soothes irritation immediately, and can be kept in the refrigerator before use to boost its soothing and cooling power.
